Not all heroes wear capes. In Kai’s case, they call for help. Kai traveled to Omaha expecting to stay with his father, only to find out last minute that plans had changed. Instead of a home, Kai was left to fend for himself—until help intervened.

2004-2008—expanding our programs. In addition to providing temporary shelter for Omaha’s homeless youth, the 2000s saw Youth Emergency Services seek other ways to support young people in crisis.

Alyssa Lutz, now the Philanthropy Manager of Youth Emergency Services (YES), understands the struggles of homelessness firsthand. In fact, it is what most compelled her to work with YES.

Nine months after the launch our $28 million capital campaign for the YES Residential Campus, YES has raised 78% of our goal, thanks to the tremendous support we’ve received from the Omaha community!

1 in 3 families in Nebraska struggle to afford enough clean diapers. Through our partnership with the Nebraska Diaper Bank, YES ensures that the young parents who seek out our services continue to have access to this essential resource.

Youth homelessness is still on the rise. Since our inception, YES was forced to turn away more than 300 young people every year due to limited space. To meet the growing demand for housing, YES acquired a second shelter for youth.

At Youth Emergency Services (YES), we serve young people coming from crisis, or unstable circumstances. This is why our staff welcomes youth with open arms, not unlike a loving family.

No matter the need, our organization strives to meet young people where they are. It is that commitment, YES Board President Kellie Harry believes, that has been instrumental to YES’ impact.
