Meet Bridget | Staff Spotlight

At Youth Emergency Services (YES), we meet youth where they are. No matter their background or need, the YES team is there to connect young people with shelter, support, and the necessary resources to successfully move forward in life. The same is true for our shelter nurse Bridget—nursing is always about meeting people where they are.

As part of a longstanding collaboration between the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) and YES, Bridget provides medical care at our Street Outreach Center. Homeless individuals present some of the most unique health challenges; it's especially important that they are seen by a healthcare professional.

“No one is immune to something happening that puts them in a vulnerable state,” Bridget says. “My job is to meet them where they are and help them move forward.”

VNA ensures that homeless individuals and families have access to healthcare by providing nursing services for homeless shelters and community centers throughout the Omaha metro area. Many go years without seeing a medical professional; nurses like Bridget are often their first point of contact. Recognizing this, Bridget works to ensure her first interaction with clients is an impactful one.

“Getting connected with providers and resources here in the community—in addition to YES—is so important for our youth,” she says. “I’m planting a seed where they know that, if something happens and there’s a need, the Center is here as a resource for them.”

At the YES Street Outreach Center, Bridget’s role extends beyond treating injuries and illnesses. She connects youth with resources, educates them about their health, and empowers them to seek care.  With the wealth of knowledge and deep compassion she brings to her work, Bridget is more than a nurse to the young people at YES—she’s a trusted presence.

“The youth know I’m here,” she says. “They come just to see me, and it’s really rewarding.”

By offering both treatment and trust, she inspires young people to take the first steps toward a healthier future. It is with this care and intention, Bridget truly helps YES meet youth where they are.
