“What happens to them?” | YES Board Spotlight

“I see the trials of my own family, and envision someone going through similar struggles without having a support system or family and wonder—what happens to them?”

—Ashley Brooks, Youth Emergency Services (YES) Board Treasurer

For 50 years, YES has worked tirelessly to address this concern by providing safe housing and support for the youth of Omaha. Now, YES continues to house young people—with the hope of providing more effective and efficient care. At the end of 2023, we announced plans to bring together all nine of our program locations and housing properties under one roof!

Ashley believes this upcoming move is instrumental not only in keeping our services safe and accessible for all youth, but also in fostering real connections with the young people we serve.

“YES’ campus will do a lot for togetherness,” she said. “Having a cohesive space is important for the sense of the community for our youth and for our team. This new space goes a long way in telling youth ‘This is a safe, secure place for you.’”

Providing a safe, secure place for Omaha’s homeless youth has remained at the core of YES’ mission. Bringing together youth, volunteers, and other supporters in one space can only continue to empower the young people in our community, change lives, and encourage independence. That’s why YES has made a transformative impact in Omaha for the past 50 years and that’s why YES will continue to serve the youth of our community for the next 50 years and beyond.
