From Kalisha’s Desk—May Edition

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! As May wraps up, it’s important to continue taking steps toward positive mental health. Did you know?

  • 1 in 5 young people (ages 13-18) will develop a mental illness in their lifetime.

  • Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide.

These facts highlight the critical need for awareness, support, and resources for mental health. Remember, even after Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, to continue taking care of your mental health. Prioritize not only your physical health, but also your mental well-being through self-care, therapy, and open communication.

YES is here to ensure youth, aged 16-24, have a place to feel at home. Through our programming, youth are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to become independent and self-sufficient within our community.

Our team at YES fosters a workplace environment where mental health is openly discussed and valued. Because practicing good habits benefits ourselves and models self-care and self-sufficiency to those around us, including the young people that we help.
