Meet Pattie | Staff Spotlight

From volunteering, to working with our Maternity Group Home program, to leading our Safe Place program, to now serving as Youth Emergency Services’ Street Outreach Coordinator, Pattie’s work has been pivotal to our impact on Omaha’s youth. For 15 years, she has experienced firsthand how YES reaches and inspires young people, even finding inspiration for herself from the youth we help.

“I have several stories of resilience, hope, and a brighter future from my time at YES, but the story that impacts me the most was a [Transitional Living program] youth who called me during a mental health crisis. The police were called to try and find him. Also, I went on my own search with his case manager.

“He was located, by the police, on a ledge of the top floor of a parking garage around the area. I watched from below filled with sadness and fear but hopeful this life would be rescued. It took a human chain of Omaha Police and Omaha Fire Department members to bring him back to safety.

“In the time since, this youth has expressed gratitude for YES’ action and continued to live for his future. I am very grateful I was able to be there in this significant time of need and play an important part in saving a valuable life.”

Day-to-day, Pattie connects youth with resources available at our Street Outreach Center and other organizations in Omaha's community. As days turn to weeks and months, she bonds with the youth she serves. Because, at YES, we not only provide housing to the young people of Omaha, but we also empower youth with our support and connection.

“I’m passionate about helping youth and young adults, especially those in need of the kind of support that YES offers,” Pattie said. “Overall, being a positive role model is an important piece to the work life at YES. I attribute quality time, active listening, and genuine interest and caring as the way to form a healthy and productive bond with the youth.”

Throughout our 50-year legacy, YES has rehomed and inspired countless young people. With your support, we hope to continue to impact Omaha’s youth for 50-plus more.
