From Kalisha’s Desk—July Edition

July is BIPOC Mental Health Month, and it's essential to elevate and amplify the importance of mental health in the BIPOC community. BIPOC Mental Health Month was created to bring awareness to the unique mental health challenges faced by minority and oppressed racial and ethnic groups in the US. Black, Indigenous, and other people of color experience various forms of discrimination, oppression, and systemic racism, which create conditions for both collective and individual traumas within their communities.

At YES, we are committed to providing mental health resources to all the youth in our programs, many of whom identify as BIPOC. Our goal is to ensure that their mental health needs are met in a safe and non-discriminatory environment and to help break the cycle of generational trauma caused by racism and oppression.
