1995: Continuing to Grow

1995—continuing to grow.

Youth homelessness is still on the rise. Since our inception, YES was serving approximately 150 youths each year—and forced to turn away more than 300 young people every year due to limited space. To meet the growing demand for housing, YES acquired a second shelter for youth—located at 2922 Izard Street. The new addition included numerous large bedrooms for youth, a spacious kitchen, a fenced in yard, and even a schoolroom. Though no longer among our current shelters, it was this house on Izard Street that truly ignited our growing number properties and programs.

Find out more about our history and plans for the future as we continue to share more stories from YES’ 50-year legacy!
